Hope Air Announces Board Appointments
Toronto
June 12, 2007 –- Hope Air, the only national
charity that arranges flights for Canadians in financial
need to required medical care, is pleased to announce the
appointment of five new members to its Board of Directors.
The appointments were announced by Board Chair Wayne Twaits
at Hope Air’s recent annual general meeting.
The new members succeed former Chair Tom
Lederer, Peter Morawetz, Jill Morison, Lois Scott, and Gavin
Welbourn, all of whom stepped down from the Board this year
after many years of distinguished service.
Hope Air's newest Board members are:
Bruce Bowser
, President and CEO of AMJ Campbell Van Lines, Mississauga,
ON. A prominent business leader and a private pilot, Mr.
Bowser began his career with the Bank of Nova Scotia in
Halifax, Nova Scotia, joining AMJ Campbell in 1992. He currently
sits on the Boards of Credit Valley Hospital Foundation,
Tyndale College Foundation and the National Club and is
President of Teen Ranch Foundation.
David A. Caspari ,
MD., MBA, Past President and founder of ChondroGene Ltd.,
a Canadian CDNX-listed biotechnology company. Dr. Caspari
has twenty-five years of experience in medicine, pharmaceuticals
and biotechnology. His experience has been focused on business
development and scientific project management, including
design and supervision of multi-centre pharmaceutical clinical
trials. He currently serves on the Boards of Sunnybrook
Women's College Hospital/Working Ventures Fund and ChondroGene
Ltd.
Kari Grist
, Vice-President, Marketing with Vancity, Canada's largest
credit union and headquartered in Vancouver, BC. Throughout
her career, Ms. Grist has received numerous awards for her
work in the area of marketing and branding, including being
named Marketer of the Year in 2005 by BCAMA. In addition
to her experience in financial services, she has an extensive
background in the airline industry, having served in senior
marketing capacities with Canadian Airlines and Wardair
International.

Gerd U. Wengler
, MBA, President, Park Property Management Inc., Markham,
ON. An engineer by profession, Mr. Wengler has held senior
management positions with St. Lawrence Cement in Montreal
and with prominent companies in the mining industry in Canada,
Thailand and Indonesia. Mr. Wengler, who is fluent in three
languages, holds a commercial pilot's licence and has been
an active participant in Hope Air's Volunteer Pilot Program.
Don MacLean , former Consultant,
Flight Operations and Commercial Scheduling, SkyService
Inc., Calgary AB. Now retired, Mr. MacLean has had extensive
experience in the airline industry. He is a former Vice-President,
Customer Service and Operations with British West Indies
Airways and previously served for many years in a variety
of management positions with Canadian Airlines. While at
Canadian Airlines, he helped form and launch Canadian Regional
Airlines. He is a past Chairman of the IATA Traffic Committee.
In announcing the appointments, Mr.
Twaits said that the new Board members' bring critical skill
sets and experience to Hope Air that will be an invaluable
asset in fulfilling our vital mission on behalf of Canadians”.
He also expressed gratitude to retiring Board members for
their “outstanding dedication and the important contributions
they have made over the years.”
The new Board members join Mr. Twaits and
other ongoing Hope Air Board members: Osama Arafat, Barry
Francis, Donna Hill, Peter Jennings, Alan Kay, Rob MacLean,
Bob Reeves and George Mohacsi.
